Assignment 1) Tobacco Advertising
Some classic tobacco advertising techniques
Advertisers use special methods or techniques that they believe will help them sell their products to a particular target group. These techniques usually include both a stated message (what the ad says) and an implied or hidden message (what is implied through the message or the overall look of the ad).
Young people may be less susceptible to complying with the images created byt eh advertisers if they learn to recognize that advertising is intended to persuade them to purchase the product, and if they learn to identify or recognize common advertising techniques.
Techniques
Star Struck Starters -If a famous person uses this, well then, so should I-they’re cool, so I should be cool.
Action Faction- Using this product will help me to have more fun jumping, running around, and being active
Lemming Effect- I need to be doing what it seems everybody else is doing.
Popularity Contest- If I use this product I’ll be more popular- everyone else will like me.
USA is OK- Cowboy’s and North American- looking people are really the coolest people on the planet.

Assignment 2) Choose 2 of the 3 options
You will read over the 3 options and choose 2 to complete. Please read the instructions and requirements carefully. Post your completed assignment onto your weebly.
Background information links:
Option 1) Culture Jam/Spoof Ad
- You will create your own spoof ad (culture jam/subsertisment) for tobacco(smoking)
- In other words you will modify an already existing advertisement or create a original one and create your own message
- You will include short explanation of it
- You will create it in MS Paint or Photoshop
- Post it on your Weebly as a image with text describing the meaning under it
- 1) A precise and well-defined objective (What are you trying to do?) is crucial to a good ad. If your objective isn't right on, then everything that follows will be off as well.
- 2) The concept is the underlying creative idea that drives your message. Take you time developing a concept that's strong.
- 3) Research indicates that 70% of people will only look at the visual in an ad, whereas only 30% will read the headline. Use photographs instead of illustrations whenever possible to make your ad more realistic.
- 4) The most important criteria is that the image be the most interesting one possible and at least half your ad whenever possible.
- 5)~Your headline must be short, snappy and must touch the people that read it. Your headline must affect the reader emotionally, either by making them laugh, making them angry, making them curious or making them think.
- 6) If you have persuasive facts, state them. But don't overwhelm with information. Two strong arguments will make more of an impression than a dozen weaker ones.
- 7) The single most common mistake is visual clutter. Less is always better than more.
