Career Unit
Today we will commence the new year with a new unit discussing career and education planning. This unit will allow us to look at:
Task 1) Research
Today we will begin researching you career choice, and gathering information for the final assignment of this unit, which is your Career Exploration Powerpoint.
This is what should be completed:
1. Go to the site, http://www.ivillage.co.uk/what-career-will-suit-your-personality/121527 and complete the quiz and take a screen shot of your results and then post it.
2. Using the workfutures.bc.ca website, research the different types of occupations you will like to do and their personal profiles.
3. Choose 3 Career Choices and make notes for each of these career choices using this: Template
Begin collecting point form information (8-10 strong points) for your 3 occupations. You need good notes for each of the following categories:
4. Once your research notes are completed (thoroughly edited and self evaluated) you can begin the PowerPoint task.
Task 2) Power Point
Within your presentation the following are required:

- Careers that interest you.
- Educational Pathways to meet those careers.
- How much this may cost you?.
- Research a career that real interests you the most.

- Description of job/ Main duties
- Education and Training Requirements
- Statistics from graphs/ interesting information about the job
4. Once your research notes are completed (thoroughly edited and self evaluated) you can begin the PowerPoint task.
Task 2) Power Point
- Your task is to develop a presentation that showcases the three occupations you have chosen to research.
- Your project will include a variety of research information you have found and images to support your text.
- This project will be used to teach a small group of students about your occupations.
Within your presentation the following are required:
- A title slide introducing your three careers and your name (think about how to make it visually appealing)
- Three slides for each occupation 1. Main Duties and description 2. Education & Training 3. Statistics/ Interesting Information You can also use your own titles
- Each slide should have what you feel are the most important 4-5 points of information (each point should be no more than 5 words).
- You will be referring to your presentation to talk about your occupation, not reading it directly from the screen.
- Each slide needs a title and should be visually balanced between text and supporting images (photos are more effective than clip art)
- There is evidence of careful editing and revising of your writing (spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.)

Final Step: Unit Reflection Blog
*** On your website, you must write a reflection about what you have learned based on each unit we are completing. It is important to highlight the achievement indicators based on these assignments. You must include this on your assignment section of your webpage along side your other components for your assignments for each unit. Your reflection should be in paragraph form and posted as a blog entry.
